Who's in on this????

Eric Hutchinson is great. He played with Matt at the second show I went too. Similar to Matt his sound is very diverse. Lyrically Matt's music is tops because he pulls from literature and his scope is much wider. Eric's seems to be pulled more from his experiences. I've seen Eric play three times and there is a consistency to his sound, stories, and show. Humor is definitely a plus. If I go to an Eric show I know its going to be a good time. Its pop and pop is fun high energy. There are similarities to Matt...but when I go to a Matt show I am usually feeling introspective and I am looking for the complexity to get lost in. Matt's shows are never consistent. How he seems to be feeling impacts song choice and how he sings. Depending on who he is playing with that night also changes things. Sometimes he is solo...other times he is with a band...etc. Sometimes its not knowing what to expect that makes it interesting and worth traveling out for a show. The audience is never the same either. I went to one show where the room was jam packed with 16 year old girls. If I am remembering correctly the show was billed as "Hearthrob Matt Duke." I remember thinking...seriously did they just take my favorite singer song writer and put him into the category that would have put him on the cover of the old Tiger Beat Magazine. It was twighlight zoneish. But ....a true reality I guess. He is a charmer. LOL ...
I am responding on here instead of gmail only because I think showing activity on here is important. It might help to draw other fans in.
"and desperate hope reminds me I'm alone...even so .....inside I know..I will see you again." Tony Lucca posted another video and it looks like Matt and the boys did some stuff at the WXPN in Philly. I went on their site to see if I could catch the whole recording. I haven't found it yet...but sometimes there is a delay. If I find it I'll pass the link. As far as the song with no name I should have just asked him what it was. I usually just say a quick hi at shows but even that makes me feel semi stalkerish. I try to remember that it is probably a good feeling to look out in the crowd and see familiar faces and see people singing your songs. I would imagine its also equally awesome to know that people like your music so much that they are requesting songs and want to talk to you about them. The one things that I do try to do is send a brief note after the show usually through myspace to let me him what I liked about the show. Its my way of saying thanks and keep playing..I am listening. You seem like a highly extroverted person and I can see you that totally own being a fan....I admire the energy. I still want cookies too! I have a few versions of some of his older songs. He gave out a CD at one of his shows once that only had 3 songs on it. I think it was before X,Y,Z. If you have an email address I can send you the songs. One of the songs on there is an acoustic version of Yellow Lights. Its beautiful ..I actually like it a lot more than the one that ended up on winter child. It also has another version of Listen to your Window.
I went to the show last night in NYC with one of my good friends who also is a Matt Duke fan. I wish you could have been there too. It would have been fun to meet. I want cookies too. LOL
Sara Bareilles came in for part of a song with Jay. It was so fun and long...I was dragging today at work 8pm -12pm. It was totally worth it though and I loved every minute. Matt played some of his earlier songs. The ones where he is a bit more impassioned. He seemed more tired than usual which knowing what there travel schedule has been I can't believe the poor guy is still standing. He also just came from Philly where I would imagine he was trying to squeeze as many moments in as he could with friends and family before getting back on the road. Matt played a new song. I wish I knew the name of it so that I can request it later. Did he play a new song when you went to the show? Perhaps you know the name. I did get a Matt Duke guitar pic....I grabbed two. I have a 14 year old nephew who is in a band. I hope to bring him to one of Matt's shows sometimes in the future.
Thanks for posting the video from the road. I saw one of them earlier on myspace. I will have to look for the ones I missed. It made me sad...now I want to see them all play next week...but I will be home visiting my parents. Boo! I love it when Matt plays with other musicians. I've seen him perform with Andrew Lipke another local artist. He did an impromptu Peter Gabriel Song with a fellow performer. It was great but my recording crappy cell phone. I'd love to hear him do this one again. I think he would have to do it with her though. They sound great together. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ecyAs2tMpZw&feature=channel_page
Hey :) What other music are listening to these days? I just down loaded Kate Earls album. I discovered her from the free itunes downloads. Usually the free stuff is crap...but I forgot I downloaded her song and it started playing.....and spent a few minutes trying to figure out where it came from. tell me what you think...here is one of the songs.

...this is my last comment before going back to work..lol. I wish more of Matt's fans came together. I have commented on his blogs from time to time and always thought I would meet people at shows. I recognize other fans now but for some reason we don't really come together. I have my friends that love his music after I introduced them to it. Other than you ...no one really reaches out. Perhaps we can change that. Actually I take that back I am friends with Doug who has taken lots of photos of Matt for a variety of things. He just moved out your way so perhaps you'll catch him at a show. Awesome guy..heart of gold....beautiful photography. His stuff is Epoch Shot on flicker.
I am mostly on Facebook. I was on twitter when I was on vacation. It was a good way to keep family and friends updated. I will have to check out Matt's tweets. I do agree with you on the Atrophy song ...the RAW version would have been a great addition to the acoustic album. Matt has talked about the furies enough at this point that I associate them with him. I was at the crucible festival out in San Fran this summer (Fire Arts Festival), they had different vendors selling an assortment of costumes. Everything from leather outfits that looked like clothes from the movie Mad Maxx to plush hats that are shaped like a bear head minus the face part. First though was....oh Matt Duke would like this.
*laughing* yes he is a very handsome young man. The 10 year age gap kind of kills the sex appeal. I have been to his shows where there are lots of young adoring female fans and despite that he remains humble and focused on his craft. I love his music because they layered both in sound and in lyrics. No two songs sound the same. I do plan on seeing a show soon. I had hoped to go in September but I am traveling out of the area when he is in Philly. I am going to try to catch him in NYC. The benefits of live shows are hearing the stories behind the music. This is where I find out my interpretation is usually drastically different than the story or inspiration behind the songs. Matt plays with a lot great musicians. From following him over the years I have discovered lots new music. Actually..Eric Hutchinson opened for Matt at the 2nd show I went to back in September/October 2005...and I am pretty sure he played Rock N Roll which is popular now in 2009. Matt =Good Stuff LOL
Finally, after waiting "30 Some Days" for the album, it's here :). Love his voice when it's down to just him and the guitar, genius album idea! I absolutely love Walk it Off and Father, Son, and the Harlot's Ghost.
